Where did dictatorship originate?

I don't think that there is a definite answer to this question, as forms of dictatorship have been around since prehistory. There have been tribal chieftans who had complete control over their people, there have been emperors ruling entire continents. The only thing that hs really changed in this phenomenon is the name, from chief to dictator or whatever else you want to call it.
