How hard is it to learn how to crochet and sew?

My mother knows how and I really would love to keep the whole tradition going because my grandma did the same thing and so did her mother and so on and so on. How hard is it to learn? My mother makes all these beautiful baby blankets and other blankets I would love to learn to make them and make a quilt.
